What is Air Guitar?

Air Guitar is an instrumental art, involving the playing of a guitar made of air along to recorded music, usually some sort of heavy metal or hard rock.

Why would I want to do that?

Because it's awesome!

Is there any risk I might look foolish?

None whatsoever. Playing air guitar displays an exceptional degree of class and sobriety.  Your host and fellow guests will no doubt think it the height of decorum.  It is appropriate behaviour at any type of social gathering where guitar music is playing, and most that aren't.

Famous air guitarists

Caring for your Air Guitar

  • Polish the Air Guitar

You can use any top-of-the-line furniture polish to care for your Air Guitar, or any of the specialty Air Guitar polishes manufactured specifically for use on an Air Guitar.  Regular polishing helps your Air Guitar to always look good, and will enhance the beauty of the air.

  • Change the Air Strings frequently

Old strings can make your Air Guitar sound dull, and might even cause you to break a string in the middle of a duck walk or an insane two-handed-tapping Air Guitar solo.  Try to buy your Air Guitar strings in bulk.

  • Don't leave out in the sun

Air Guitars are very robust and sturdy devices, but leaving them out in direct sunlight for long periods of time can lead to the premature aging of your instrument.  You are best off leaving your guitar in an Air Case when it is not in use.

  • Avoid things that cause scratches, dings, or scars

Don't play air guitar when you're wearing a belt buckle!  I've seen many beautiful air guitars needlessly ruined by belt buckle scratches.

Albums for Air Guitar

The following are all great choices for any beginning Air Guitar enthusiast to practice along to.

  • AC/DC - Highway to Hell

The defining australian band's last album with legendary singer Bon Scott, this album is great for practicing your duck walk and wind mills.

  • Van Halen - II

Some very challenging solos on this album, there's something on here for the beginner and advanced student alike.

  • Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning

The single from this album, Cold Sweat, is a must-learn for any air guitarist.

  • Motley Crue - Girls Girls Girls

A tour de force of rhythm guitar, providing ample scope for ostentatious moves.

  • Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - I love Rock N Roll

The former Runaway's most riffingest album.
