Signage for small businesses

Signage is a great way for many businesses to promote themselves to their market. The cost can be minimal, they require very little in the way of upkeep or ongoing attention, and once the sign is up there, it's working for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Signs are useful for a number of reasons: they build your business brand, provide concrete information to your market, and can provide a call to action to potential new customers.

Building Signage

Building signage can perform a number of functions for your business. As well as providing image and branding, building signage can explain to customers what products or services your business offers, information such as opening hours or telephone and website contact information, and other helpful information such as where customers can park or where other entrances to the building are located.

For shopfront businesses, good quality signage is very important. For much of the passing pedestrian and vehicle traffic, the sign they see will be the very first impression they have of your business. If you have ineffective signage. much of your opportunity to communicate with new customers might be wasted. For shopfront businesses, lighting can be an important consideration, particularly if you trade when it's dark.

Vehicle Signage

If you use a car, van, truck, or other vehicle in your business, vehicle signage can be an extremely cost effective way to build your company's brand, while reaching new customers. Consider that, in the course of running your business, you are going to be driving through built-up areas and spending time stopped at traffic lights or parked in busy streets anyway. Wouldn't it be a great idea to be showing pedestrians and the cars who are stopped nearby your business name, and your phone number or website address while you are there?

There are many different options for vehicle signage. For a temporary, easily removable solution, magnetic signs can be easily affixed to cars. More permanent solutions can include vinyl decals or even airbrushed art.

Coordinating your signage with your online marketing

Offline marketing and online marketing should not be viewed as seperate endeavours. Your offline presence can often be a great source of highly-qualified traffic to your website. Likewise, many people who are interested in your business's products or services are going to want to look up your internet presence as their very next step. Using signage to display your website address is a great way to drive traffic to that site. Similarly, making sure that you have a well designed and search engine optimised website full of great, engaging, informative content will help you get the most out of your signage.
