What to look for in a Piano Removalist
66
Choosing an piano removalist is an important decision. Get it wrong and moving house can turn the already costly and stressful experience of moving house into an expensive and frustrating nightmare. Luckily there are several things you can look for to try to make the right decision.
Does the moving company specialise in moving pianos?
When engaging a moving company for a piano removal job, it is important to look for a company that is able to specialise in this task. Removalists that have specialist knowledge of, experience with, and equipment for moving pianos are a better choice than furniture removalists who lack those things. Pianos are very heavy musical instruments - concert grand pianos can easily weigh 450 kilograms - and they are also extremely delicate as well. They are often extremely beautiful objects, and significant investments as well. You do not want to chance this to dollies that don't have the right weight capacity for the instrument, or removalists who do not know how to properly use them.
Is the moving company (adequately) insured?
Nobody starts a removals job with the intention of causing damage or injury. Nonetheless, despite the best preparation, skill, knowledge, care and attention, mistakes can be made and accidents can occur. If worse came to worst, and there was an accident in transporting your piano, wouldn't you want to at least be assured that you can be compensated for your losses by insurance? And perhaps even more importantly, if a third party was injured or their property damaged in transporting the piano, wouldn't you again at least be satisfied that third-party or public liability insurance is there to protect you from potential liabilities that might therefrom arise?
If you are unsure about whether or not your prospective removalists are insured, it's definitely worth finding out. And don't just ask whether or not they're insured, find out what they're insured against and how much for as well. If you are not satisfied with the level of insurance they have, this is a good time to start looking elsewhere, even if all the other things seem good.
Are they able to handle your other removals as well?
Moving house is a physically, emotionally and financially stressful time - even when everything goes perfectly. You can save yourself a bit of time, hassle and probably some money as well by just dealing with one removalist company to handle all your furniture removals. A removals company may even be able to provide you with boxes, packing tape and wrapping paper, ahead of the move date.
